What is the CINtec PLUS test?
The CINtec® PLUS cytology test is one of the most comprehensive laboratory screening tests for cervical cancer. This test is unique because it simultaneously checks for two markers, p16 and Ki-67, which help identify the presence of harmful HPV infections. This test makes it possible to distinguish HPV infections that can lead to cancer from those that do not.
By identifying infections, the test result can help our doctors decide whether further procedures, such as colposcopy, may be necessary. If HPV infection is detected in time, the required interventions can be carried out before the affected cells reach the cancerous stage.
When may the CINtec PLUS test be recommended?
A gynecologist may recommend this test for women aged 25-65 who exhibit abnormal findings at the annual gynecological exam or other screenings, such as a positive Pap test or positive for the human papillomavirus (HPV). This evaluation identifies potential health issues and guides further treatment or monitoring.
How is the screening performed?
For the CINtec PLUS test, our gynecologist will take a sample similar to the HPV and Pap tests, which our in-house laboratory then processes for evaluation.
To ensure the effectiveness of your screening by our gynecologists, please schedule your appointment in the middle of your cycle and note the date of the first day of your last period — this is important information for our doctor. Please also bring your previous examination and lab results with you to the screening.
If you have any inflammatory symptoms, such as discharge, burning, itching, or unpleasant-smelling discharge, the test will not give an accurate result, so it is advisable to have these treated before the test.
