Psychology care for adults and children
Adverse life experiences, such as loss, trauma, accidents, work or school stress, personal or parents’ relationship difficulties, can adversely influence mental health. Our psychology care helps manage these experiences and navigate career, educational, and relational challenges in children and adults.
Psychological counseling promotes personal growth and transformation for both children and adults. Our psychotherapists encourage self-discovery, foster self-acceptance, and boost self-confidence, helping patients build a healthier relationship with distress and lead more fulfilling lives.
Our nurturing, attentive child psychology and development support helps children’s mental and emotional development, fostering resilience and well-being. It focuses on boosting motivation, improving attention, enhancing communication skills, increasing emotional regulation, and strengthening community connections.
Psychiatric care
Complex mental health conditions often develop through a combination of genetic factors and harmful life experiences, which may affect how the brain functions. Our dedicated specialists offer comprehensive psychiatric care for a range of mental health conditions that influence mood, behavior, and perceptions, such as:
- Anxiety disorders manifesting agoraphobia (experiencing intense fear in places or situations where it might be difficult to escape), sudden panic attacks, and other neurotic conditions.
- Affective disorders, particularly depression and bipolar disorder,
- Psychotic disorders, including schizophrenia and delusional disorders (hallucinations, paranoid or unusual beliefs, like being influenced, tracked, controlled, or even persecuted).
- Personality disorders are influenced by genetic factors, difficult experiences during childhood, and problems with forming healthy relationships.
- Life-related mental health issues, such as age-related cognitive decline, dementia, or effects of physical illnesses, e.g., mental health problems after accidents, infections, postpartum depression, or psychosis.
Some of these conditions are mainly treatable or manageable with medication and/or a combined approach involving teamwork among the psychologist (or psychotherapist), the psychiatrist, and, of course, the patient. As some mental health conditions may involve physical symptoms, psychiatric care may involve certain other specialists in the treatment.
The mental health care process at FirstMed
The process of our mental health therapy, which includes psychological care, psychiatry, or a combination of both, is structured as outlined below:
1. Initial consultation
Before commencing the therapy, you'll undergo a comprehensive consultation. Our mental health professional will carefully assess the concerns and collect medical history (if necessary), allowing a tailored approach that considers the patient's specific background and experiences.
2. Assessing mental health
To understand the mental health condition, our specialist may use different psychological tests and physical exams. This approach enables a complete evaluation and outlining of an individual therapy.
3. Mental health treatment
Our mental health treatment takes a holistic approach, providing psychological consultations, psychiatric treatment, or a combination of these, for the best possible care. If necessary, we can also provide customised medication and involve other specialists in the care.
Flexible consultation options
Our outpatient mental health care is provided in a comfortable, familiar setting — either in person at FirstMed’s Budapest clinic or via online consultations — so you can receive the support you deserve while maintaining your daily routine with ease.
