Overview of the conditions in our psychiatric care focus:
Psychiatric disorders typically arise from a combination of genetic factors and life experiences that impact brain function and behavior. Early detection of mental health conditions can significantly improve the effectiveness of treatment, offering optimism for a full recovery. Consult a specialist early if you are struggling with such issues.
Our dedicated psychiatric team works closely with other specialists to ensure early diagnosis and effective treatment, thereby significantly improving the chances of successful management. Our psychiatric care primarily focuses on the following conditions:
Anxiety disorders
Anxiety disorders often arise from a person’s inner conflicts, traumatic events, or excessive reactions to everyday burdens.
Symptoms: prolonged anxiety, agoraphobia (intense fear and anxiety at a place or situation where escape might be difficult), sudden panic attacks, and other neurotic conditions.
Manifestations include physical sensations such as palpitations, dizziness, shortness of breath, or digestive issues, often leading to visits to other physicians.

Affective disorders (e.g. depression, bipolar disorder)
Bipolar disorder involves extreme mood swings that include emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression), affecting a person’s energy, activity levels, and ability to function. Both disorders can significantly impact daily life and often require professional treatment for management and support.
Lasting feelings of sadness and hopelessness mark depression, with a lack of interest or pleasure in daily activities, often along with changes in sleep, appetite, and energy levels. It is widespread and is usually associated with stressful, unfulfilling environments. Depression is a significant cause of suicide and can present differently in youth and older people. It can also happen due to genetic risk and is often related to unhealthy social relationships.
Our psychiatrists treat depression and bipolar disorder with medications such as antidepressants and mood stabilizers, along with psychological therapies.
Psychotic disorders (e.g., schizophrenia, delusional disorders)
Psychotic disorders include hallucinations, such as hearing voices or seeing things that others can’t see, and paranoid or unusual beliefs, like feeling influenced, tracked, controlled, or persecuted. These conditions can be troublesome for the person experiencing them and overwhelming for their families.
Our complex therapy of psychotic disorders involves antipsychotic medications and psychological support, focusing on symptom control, building trust, and reality orientation.
Addictions (e.g., alcohol, drug addiction)
Addictions often arise from emotional trauma or inadequate coping strategies. Successfully addressing these challenges typically involves thoughtful psychological support and educational programs. When needed, our dedicated psychiatrists collaborate with other specialists at FirstMed, including internist or neurologist, to ensure the highest quality of care for our patients.
Personality disorders
Personality disorders often develop from a combination of genetic factors, difficult childhood experiences, and struggles with forming healthy relationships. These influences can shape a person’s thoughts, feelings, and interactions with others. As a result, they may face behavioral issues, emotional struggles, thoughts of self-harm or suicide, risky behaviors, or other challenges.
Usually, treatment involves medication prescribed by a psychiatrist along with psychotherapy, which helps patients achieve greater stability and find better ways to cope with life.
Life-related mental conditions
- Mental issues related to typical life stages or events, such as age-related cognitive decline, dementia, and postpartum depression or postpartum psychosis.
- Connected to physical illnesses, including mental health issues following accidents, infections, or stressful events.
- Stress-related syndromes from traumatic incidents, like PTSD, grief, burnout, or adjustment disorders.
- ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder): is a neurological developmental disorder with major symptoms including attention deficit, impulsivity, and hyperactivity, making it difficult to perform everyday tasks and maintain social relationships.
We can provide further care and treatment for patients with ADHD who have already been diagnosed. Unfortunately, we are currently unable to make new diagnoses. Therefore, please bring your medical records with you and present them during your first visit.
Other mental health conditions
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) involves persistent, unwanted thoughts and fears, known as obsessions, along with excessive rituals or compulsions designed to reduce tension and anxiety.
- Eating disorders and body image concerns: Our psychiatric care addresses the emotional aspects of eating disorders (such as anorexia and bulimia) and body image issues. When needed, we also collaborate with our dietitian to establish healthy eating habits.
- Impulse control issues such as binge eating, gambling, and social media addiction.
- Sleep disorders: while our psychiatric care providers help with the mental background of sleep disorders, they may also involve our sleep therapist for comprehensive care.
- Sexuality-related issues and social phobias
