We had a blast at the Happykidskindergarten (Happy Kids International Kindergarten and Nursery) annual charity fashion show this year!

This is a special event that has been held since 2005 and aims to raise money and collect items that would help devastated areas. This year, the fundraising went to the victims of the Turkish earthquake.

In this irregular fashion show, the models are all children, marching on the catwalk in their own unique creations. Some wore the special costumes they sew; younger ones customized old clothes with paper and paint.

We're so happy to have helped contribute to the collection of almost 1.7 million HUF, which went to the Search/Rescue Foundation.

It was an amazing event—all for a good cause!

We love hearing our patients' success stories, and this one is truly inspiring. Read about a unique case of FirstMed's speech therapist, Edit Juhász-Vedres.

Johann, a patient from South Africa, had suffered a stroke and lost function in half of his body. As a result, he was left with severe difficulty speaking—a condition known as “aphasia.” Although he could not speak, he heard everything that was said around him. That made him feel like he was missing out on so much.

This caused a big problem in his family life because he couldn't discuss what they were doing together, what he wanted for dinner, or anything like that. When he came to see me for treatment, he cried and tried to express how he wanted his family back. And I knew exactly what he meant.

For a year and a half, my patient visited several speech therapy sessions, and we worked hard to help him regain his ability to speak. Eventually, he could go home again with his happy family, and now they're all living their best lives together!

While this case is an extreme example, it illustrates how important speech therapy can be. However, speech therapy is not just for people with aphasia and dysphonia (an inability to form voiced sounds). It can help patients overcome a variety of other speech problems, including stuttering, delayed speech development, and phlegm.

Childhood obesity can occur when a child is above the healthy weight for their age and height. It affects more and more kids these days: their number is predicted to double between 2020 and 2025. With this keeping in mind, however, malnutrition should also be avoided.

Izabella Henter, dietitian at @firstmedcenters in Budapest highlights that it’s more important than ever to teach children the importance of healthy eating habits.

Start with these small changes for a big impact on your child’s health:
🔹 Let your child try different foods, discover new tastes and textures. 🍜
🔹 Make healthy vegetable snacks 🥗 at home, instead of buying packaged foods.
🔹 Smoothies🥤are perfect for adding nutrients and vitamins from fruits and vegetables into your child's diet – without added sugar.
🔹 Instead of frying your food, broil or bake it. ♨️
🔹 Go for low-fat dairy 🥛 products, lean meats and poultry for meals. 🐔🐟 Chicken breasts and fish are also great low-fat protein sources, as well as vegetable sources like beans, lentils, and nuts.
🔹 Involve your children in meal planning, buying and preparation, giving them a sense of ownership over their food choices. 👨‍🍳👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Healthy behavior also includes food safety and environmental protection, which approach cannot be started early enough.

You can influence your children's eating habits for years to come by setting a good example. The sooner you start them on healthy eating plans, the more likely they are to continue with them later in life.
