Tourist Doctor Budapest: Urgent Medical Care for Visitors

Looking for a tourist doctor Budapest? FirstMed is a private English-speaking clinic where visitors can be seen for urgent medical care, usually the same day. You do not need Hungarian residency, a local ID, or even health insurance to be seen by our doctors.

We offer clear, upfront pricing and provide you with an itemized quote before any treatment begins, followed by an itemized English invoice. If you have travel insurance, we will supply all the necessary documentation required to file a claim when you return home.

Our doctors frequently treat international tourists who feel lost trying to navigate a foreign healthcare system while feeling unwell. Whether you are visiting Budapest for a weekend or an extended stay, here is exactly what you can expect during your visit and how to access healthcare quickly.

What to Expect From a Tourist Doctor in Budapest

Most people who walk through our door were meant to be at dinner, or on a train to Vienna, or halfway up the Castle Hill. We know this is not how you planned your day. Our job is to get you back to it.

Here is how we take care of you from the moment you arrive:

  • Care leads, paperwork follows: You will be seen by a doctor who speaks English, usually the same day. When booking, tell us what is wrong, and we will take it from there. When you arrive, there is a short intake form, which we need for your medical record and your insurance claim. If you are in pain or unsteady on your feet, please say so. Our receptionists can bring a wheelchair and you can complete the form sitting down, or we can help you fill it in.
  • No need for embarrassment: Slips at the thermal baths are one of the most common injuries we treat. The stone is wet, the tiles are old, and it happens to even the most careful people. You are not the first, and you will not be the last one in today.
  • Wheelchair accessibility: If you already know you will need a wheelchair when you arrive, please call us in advance. Our team will gladly have a wheelchair ready for you downstairs and guide you directly up the elevator to our 5th-floor clinic.
  • Thorough, English-speaking consultations: Once you are in the examination room, you will see a doctor who speaks English, explains your diagnosis in detail, and walks you through all of your treatment options. Sometimes that includes prescribing medication or referring you directly to our on-site X-ray, laboratory, or in-house specialists.
  • Paperwork made easy: You will leave with your diagnosis, your prescription, and your paperwork in English, printed and signed. There is nothing you will have to worry about deciphering on the plane home.

Please note: FirstMed is an outpatient facility handling urgent primary care and minor injuries. If you are experiencing a life-threatening medical emergency (such as severe chest pain or major trauma), please bypass the clinic and call 112 immediately for local Hungarian emergency services.

Fit-to-Fly Certificates for Travelers

If your illness or injury impacts your upcoming travel plans, let your doctor know during your consultation. Our medical team can evaluate your condition and provide an official, signed fit-to-fly certificate, as required by airlines, to clear you for travel home or to your next destination.

Billing and Insurance

A dedicated, English-speaking billing team member will guide you through the final steps of your visit.

  • Payment methods: We accept payment via cash, credit/debit card, or PayPal.
  • What to bring: Please bring your passport/ID, your travel insurance policy number, and a list of any current medications you are taking.
  • Insurance claims: If you travel with insurance, our staff will provide you with the necessary English-language documentation and itemized receipts, giving you everything you need to smoothly file a reimbursement claim.
  • European Health Insurance Card (EHIC): If you are an EU citizen traveling with an EHIC, note that it covers state-system care only and does not apply to private clinics, including ours. Many visitors still choose private care for the English-language consultation, the shorter wait, and the insurer documentation. You can review what the EHIC does and does not cover on the official EU page.

If your travels take you beyond Budapest, FirstMed continues to support your journey. We offer convenient telemedicine services across Hungary and Italy. For details on scheduling a remote follow-up appointment with an English-speaking doctor on your smartphone, please contact our reception team.
