ALLERGOLOGY/IMMUNOLOGY
One of the most widespread illnesses around, allergies are an overreaction of the immune system to substances – known as allergens – that are otherwise harmless. Allergens are substances that are foreign to the body and can cause an allergic reaction. Strictly speaking, allergy is one of four forms of hypersensitivity, which can result in an extreme inflammatory response.
CARDIOLOGY
Cardiologists are specialists dealing with disorders of the heart. The field includes diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease and electrophysiology.
Cardiologists should not be confused with cardiac, cardiothoracic or cardiovascular surgeons, who perform cardiac surgery via open operative procedures on the heart and great vessels.
DERMATOLOGY
Dermatology is the branch of medicine that is dealing with the skin and its diseases, a unique specialty with both medical and surgical aspects.
Its sub-specialties include cosmetic dermatology, but most doctors in the field limit their cosmetic practice to minimally invasive procedures.
Your dermatologist takes care of diseases and some cosmetic problems of the skin, scalp, hair, and nails.
DIABETOLOGY
Diabetology is the clinical science of diabetes mellitus, its diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up. It is considered a specialized field of endocrinology. Concerning disorders of the carbohydrate metabolism, the field includes diagnosis and treatment of insulin resistance, prediabetes, diabetes and gestational diabetes.
DIETETICS
A dietician is a health care professional who focuses on proper food and nutrition in order to promote good health. They supervise the preparation and service of food, develop modified diets, participate in research, and educate individuals and groups on good nutritional habits
EAR, NOSE, THROAT (ENT)
Otolaryngology or ENT (ear, nose, and throat) is the branch of medicine and surgery that specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of ear, nose, throat, head and neck disorders. During an ENT examination, microscopes, endoscopes and laryngoscopes are used to determine the origin of an illness.
ENDOCRINOLOGY
This branch of medicine dealing with the endocrine system, its diseases, and its specific secretions called hormones, the integration of developmental events such as proliferation, growth, and differentiation and the coordination of metabolism, respiration, excretion, movement, reproduction, and sensory perception depending on chemical cues, substances synthesized and secreted by specialized cells.
GASTROENTEROLOGY
Gastroenterology examines the normal function and diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon and rectum, pancreas, gallbladder, bile ducts and liver.

INTERNAL MEDICINE
A doctor of internal medicine, or Internist, specializes in the diagnosis and nonsurgical medical treatment of adults. Internists generally act as personal physicians and often develop long-term relationships with their patients.
They perform examinations, make diagnoses, treat acute illness and chronic disease, and also incorporate disease prevention into the care they provide. Internists prescribe and administer medications, immunizations, and treatments.
NEUROLOGY
Neurology is a medical specialty dealing with disorders of the nervous system. Specifically, it deals with the diagnosis and treatment of all categories of disease involving the central, peripheral, and autonomic nervous systems, including their coverings, blood vessels, and all effector tissue, such as muscle.
OPHTHALMOLOGY
Ophthalmology is the branch of medicine which deals with the anatomy, physiology and diseases of the eye.
Since ophthalmologists perform operations on eyes, they are considered to be both surgical and medical specialists.
ORTHOPEDICS
Orthopedic surgery or orthopedics is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system.
Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and nonsurgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.
PULMONOLOGY
As the specialty that deals with diseases of the respiratory tract and respiratory disease, it is generally considered a branch of internal medicine, although it is closely related to intensive care medicine when dealing with patients requiring mechanical ventilation.
Pulmonology is concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of lung diseases, as well as secondary prevention (tuberculosis).

RHEUMATOLOGY
A rheumatologist is physician qualified by additional training and experience in the diagnosis and treatment of arthritis or other diseases of the joints, muscles and bones. They treat patients with pain and disorders of the joints, muscles, tendons, bones and other connective tissues.
SLEEP MEDICINE
Sleep medicine is a relatively young branch of medicine, which incorporates the elements of exploratory sleep therapies and procedures, with the relevant elements of the more classical fields of neurology, pulmonology, internal medicine, ENT, and psychiatry.
SPORTS MEDICINE
Every day in Budapest, injuries occur while playing sports or during routine exercise. Sports medicine is responsible for physical fitness and treatment and prevention of sports injuries. Injuries can happen quickly, in one motion, or over time with repetitive movements. Often, they can’t and shouldn’t be ignored.
SURGERY
Surgery is the medical specialty that uses operative manual and instrumental techniques on a patient to investigate and/or treat a disease or injury, to help improve bodily function or appearance.
Surgical specialties and sub-specialties include cardiothoracic, vascular, transplant or trauma surgery.
TRAUMATOLOGY
Traumatology (from Greek “Trauma” meaning injury or wound) is the study of wounds and injuries caused by accidents or violence to a person, and the surgical therapy and repair of the damage.
It is often considered a subset of surgery and in countries without the specialty of trauma surgery it is most often a sub-specialty to orthopedic surgery. Traumatology may also be known as accident surgery.

UROLOGY
Urology is the medical and surgical specialty that focuses on the urinary tracts of males and females, and on the reproductive system of males. The organs covered by urology include the kidneys, adrenal glands, ureters, urinary bladder, urethra, and the male reproductive organs.
